Springs Ensemble Theatre - 1903 E. Cache La Poudre
Pikes Peak Community College (PPCC) theater students are collaborating with Springs Ensemble Theatre to perform Eugene O’Neill’s provocative play “The Rope.” This is the first play produced by the PPCC Theater Department in six years, expressing a renewed emphasis on theater programming at PPCC.
“The Rope” will be performed at the Springs Ensemble Theatre at 1903 E. Cache La Poudre Ave., Colorado Springs, Colo., April 5 - 6 from 7:30- 9:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 7 from 2 - 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Admission is free on Sunday with the donation of a can of food.
This one-act play is O’Neil’s intensely cynical reworking of the New Testament’s parable of the prodigal son. In it, an elderly father has hidden the remainder of the family fortune at one end of a rope he has arranged in the barn. At the other end is a noose. Upon his son’s return from years of vagabond living, he receives the young man with a mixture of obvious joy and of inarticulate urgings for him to hang himself. The outcome is anything but predictable.
